Position Overview

The Manager, Upstream Accounting & Reporting serves as an advisor and strategic partner to the Upstream Controller. This position will act as a liaison between the Financial Reporting Group and Corporate Accounting Group. In addition, the role will assist in decisions related to technical accounting, internal financial reporting, cash forecasts and projections, policies and procedures, and internal controls.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Managing all aspects of the Upstream Segment’s accounting activities such as overseeing property accounting, monthly accounting close processes, DD&A and ARO calculations and accounting, preparation of the annual SMOG calculations and disclosures, etc.
  • Overseeing technical accounting research related to new and proposed accounting standards associated with Upstream activities and coordinating the research with the Corporate Financial Reporting Group
  • Preparing the monthly reporting packages for the Upstream department that includes financial positions, results of operations, significant activities, critical accounting and operational updates, key financial performance metrics (e.g., liquidity, earnings, production data, etc.), internal control issues, and earnings
  • Assisting in the preparation of budgets and reviewing budget proposals
  • Monitoring and approving monthly budgets
  • Assisting the Upstream Controller in analyzing financial performance of department's assets and resources to forecast sales and shipments
  • Managing financial and SOX audits with internal and external auditors and provide recommendations for procedural improvements
  • Ensuring compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and support oversite all internal controls
  • Updating accounting policies as needed and assist in the effective and practical implementation of policies
  • Supporting the recruiting, training, and evaluating of staff performance
  • Overseeing technical accounting research related to new and proposed accounting standards associated with Upstream activities and coordinating the research with the Corporate Financial Reporting Group

Qualifications

  • 8+ years’ work experience at a 'Big 4' accounting firm or a combination of 'Big 4' and public company 
  • Extensive knowledge of, and experience with SEC reporting requirements, US GAAP standards, and internal control processes
  • Strong experience in Oil & Gas accounting and financial reporting requirements
  • Ability to research and reach well-reasoned conclusions on technical accounting issues
  • Strategic thinking and leadership skills with an emphasis on relationship management and communication at all levels of an organization
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate multiple deadlines, create cohesive teams, and respond quickly to management requests
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail, demonstrated integrity and professionalism

Travel

Local travel may be required to support some business activities.
